After three albums and nearly a decade together, instrumental post-rock quintet Caspian has honed a musical identity that makes them members of a club filled with similarly moody, orchestral-rock bands like Mogwai and Godspeed You! Black Emperor (GYBE). And while it’s a sound that seemed to burrow underground for much of the mid-2000s, lately there’s been a resurgence of this kind of sonic deliberateness — heard in a rapturous and much-discussed five-day stand from GYBE in New York last year, and in recent work from bands like Sigur Ros and the xx.
